Happy Birthday, Mecklyn!!
We celebrated Mecklyn's 2nd birthday at Noah's Ark pool yesterday morning.  I can't believe our little llama has grown up so quickly!!

We have been quite busy lately and now have pictures from our trip to the east coast.  We spent time with the Barrs in Frederiskburg, VA where Brig had a couple of firsts:  he caught his first crawfish and soon thereafter received his first crawfish pinch!  From there, we moved on to Cornelius, NC for some quality time with the Millers where the kids went tubing on Lake Norman.

We also have pictures from a recent caping adventure at Lake Somerville and from a day trip to Stuart Beach.

We celebrated our nephew
Gavin's first birthday yesterday at a party at the Schaeffer's house.  Cheryl handled the face painting while the kids did a little painting of their own once they got their hands on the cake and ice cream.  I guess its not much of a party until the kids have coated themselves in sugar.  Congratulations Gavin!!!

South Padre Island (trip with Grammy & Grandaddy)
Brazos Bend State Park - Part II (we went back again, this time with friends!)

March 28, 2008  9:41 p.m.

You want to know the latest addition to Mecklyn's ever-growing vocabulary?  Alligator.  We camped out at Brazos Bend State Park last night and Mecklyn came away with some pretty good reasons to learn articulate what she saw (especially when it was capable of eating us!).  We arrived late in the afternoon, with just enough sunlight to squeeze in a short nature walk around Creekfield Lake.  We soon encountered a six foot alligator on our path which slithered into the water as we drew near.  Later in our walk we would see three deer, dozens of black vultures, a giant bullfrog and an armadillo.

We camped out in a tent big enough to fit three sleeping bags and a pack-n-play.  It was a gorgeous night so we fell asleep star-gazing (Brig remarked that the sky in Houston he was used to seeing only had one star) and watching the fire-flies (another first for the kids!).  There was a bit of a rucous though, as we had at least four (possibly more) raccoons invade our campsite.  Several fights broke out throughout the night as the raccoons fought over the last remnants of the cheese crackers Mecklyn had spilled on the ground earlier that evening.

We awoke early this morning (thanks Brig!) and hit the trails after a hearty breakfast.  We encountered more alligators, including a five-footer that hissed loudly at us as we passed by (it didn't seem like a friendly hiss to me).  Anyway, enjoy the pictures!

We also have a montage of photos from an Easter egg hunt at the Schaeffer's house last week and a short video from our trip to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.  Last but not least, I posted video entitled Little Samurai that shows precisely what happens when you a three year old kid eats too much candy at Halloween (yes, this one is quite old, but it is still new to you, right?).

March 21, 2008  4:55 p.m.

The kids are growing up so fast!  The latest happening in the Miller household was Brig's fourth birthday party last week.  Batman himself (yes, the REAL Batman as Brig will attest) made an appearance and entertained the kids.  We had a superhero & damsels in distress theme so the guys dressed up last superheros (Brig wore his Super-Brig cape!) while the girls dressed up like, yes, distressed damsels (Mecklyn wasn't really into acting distressed as she walked around like she owned the place but she did a fine job of being a beautiful princess!).

We also have pictures from a couple of beach outings (Dec 2007 and March 2008), the Houston Livestock & Rodeo, holidays (that would include Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas) with our family and a second trip to Bayou Wildlife Park.

October 20
, 2007 11:26 a.m.

Brig conquered the first round of his swim test and we have the video to prove it!  Brig's swim instructor (Mr. Daniels) carried Brig out to the middle of the pool, dropped him in the water and then our budding Mark Spitz somehow swam his way out of the pool.  The impressive part is that Brig was weighed down by a t-shirt and shoes!  In stage two, Brig will wear tennis shoes & socks (he wore his Crocs for stage one), but judging from his performance so far I don't think the extra weight will slow him down.

Cheryl hosted the debut of Houston's Baby Loves Disco last month - it was a smashing success (click here for third-party video coverage of the event) as they topped even their own ambitious goal of 500 tickets sold.  There was even a nice write-up about Cheryl in The Examiner (a local newspaper) while The Houston Chronicle covered the event complete with photos.  I've included links to those respective articles though I'm not sure how long they will be active (hint: read them now before they disappear!).  Here are some pictures of the event, compliments of John Ly Photography (there are a few pictures of our family in here and I put those in a separate photo gallery.

Meanwhile Mecklyn has turned into a little chatter box.  She is talking / singing / shouting 24-7 these days... Cheryl has been taking her to music class and apparently Mecklyn struts around like she owns the place.  She absolutely loves music.  Stay tuned for her debut album!

I've also compiled a webfolio of pictures from the last month.  If you check out the link you'll see pictures from Brig's swim class, pictures of our Halloween decorations (we hung a pirate skeleton and a vampire bat outside to greet our guests!), a couple of photos of Brig's bubble bath-gone-awry and last but not least pictures of our nephew, Gavin Schaeffer, who was baptized last week.

September 15, 2007 2:39 p.m.

Not much new to report, but we did receive pictures back from our latest photoshoot, compliments of John Ly Photography.

September 3, 2007 9:32 p.m.

She walks!  Yes, Mecklyn has been walking for about a month now (late July).  As a matter of fact, she was walking at the time of my last post, but I didn't want to spoil the surprise as I didn't have the video footage edited (it was the middle of earnings season - what do you expect?).  Anyway, we have finally gotten around to compiling a video to capture the magical moment for all time - enjoy!

We now have pictures from our trip to Navarre beach including pics from Mecklyn's first birthday bash!!

Happy Birthday Mecklyn!!

June 24
, 2007 3:57 p.m.

Brig is now learning to swim.  He completed a two-week intensive swim class about a month ago and has been spending as much time in (and below) the water as out of it lately.  He learned survival skills first (i.e., how to float on his back) and now he is actually learning to swim; he's actually advanced quite a bit since I took the video below (its hard to keep up with him!).   Anyway, as you can see we've been busy these last few months.  Brig has also been taking gymnastics lessons with the Houston Gymnastics Association so I included some footage from their "Mini-Olympics" (be forewarned its a big file and may take a while to download).  It took a while, but I finally got around to editing the video we took at Sea World of Brig feeding the dolphins so be sure to check that one out.  There's also some hilarious shots of Brig and Cheryl being attacked by a rogue Ostrich at the Bayou Wildlife Reserve.  Last but not least, Brig is playing soccer with some of his playgroup friends.  Its a bit chaotic and unstructured (no goal keeper or referees) but at least no one has drawn a yellow card.

As for Mecklyn, she is now able to get into all kinds of trouble as she has been crawling now for about two months.  What started out as an army crawl soon advanced to a traditional knee crawl and has now moved onto a hands-and-feet crawl that will surely bring a chuckle as you watch the video.  She has also learned to walk behind baby walker so I included some video footage of that in a separate video.  Just like her big Brother, Mecklyn has become quite the water bug and enjoys our weekend excursions to the pool.

Finally, I have one bonus video to share from the archives.  A little over a year ago we travelled to Grammy & Grandaddy's house on Lake Norman and took some great video footage of our boat ride (including some of Brig being pulled by the boat on an innertube!).  Well, we had a little mishap with the camera on that trip and until now I had been unable to retrieve the footage.  I hope you enjoy the video as much as we do!  By the way, if you're wondering where Mecklyn was on this trip, she was still in Mommy's tummy (check out the shot of Mommy in her bikini - she's carry 8 months worth of baby)!

May 17, 2007 9:57 p.m.

The big day was today and Gavin Thomas Schaeffer is here!  He was born at 10:25 am. 8 pounds 7 ounces, 20 1/4 inches long! Both Mommy and baby are doing fine. They will come home Sunday. Below is a link to the Schaeffer's website that has a page for him and will have pictures soon. The second link is a few pictures that Cheryl took of the occasion as well.

May 13, 2007 9:25 p.m.

First, the big news is that Mecklyn is now crawling!  Yep, she started out with the typical "army crawl" where she basically pulled her legs around with her upper body and has now moved on to crawling on her knees.  She is also pulling herself up and cruising from one object to the next.  We hope to have video for all of you soon!   Meanwhile, we have lots of pictures to show from the past few (busy) weekends:

April 15, 2007 2:55 p.m.

I have decided to list two types of video files from here out - higher definition wmv (i.e., windows media video) files for those using MS Windows machines that wish to download the higher definition video to their harddrives (keep in mind that file size will also be considerably larger making these files difficult to stream without extending your buffer) and lower definition swf flash files for anyone either operating on a Mac or those on a Windows PC who desire instant gratification (the video should begin playing as soon as you click on the link).   If you have technical difficulties viewing the flash videos, I'd recommend installing the latest version of Adobe's Flash Player.  If you have difficulty streaming the windows media files, make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player and if you're still having difficulty consider increasing the buffer.  If all else files, download the wmv to your desktop by right-clicking on the wmv link or simply watch the lower resolution flash video.

April 12, 2007  10:31 p.m.

We're back with lots of good stuff for you, including some recent pictures and several new videos from the Miller video vault:

Stay tuned for more... Cheryl has taught Mecklyn a few tricks that I'd love to get on camera.  Daddy's heart melted on the spot today when Mecklyn waved and hollered "Hiiiiiii" repeatedly to me as I walked in the door.  She is beginning to get much more verbal and much more animated.  She says "Mammama" for Mommy and "Bababa" for bottle (she doesn't always ask nicely for that!) and says the same "Bababa" for Brig.  If I'm really really lucky she'll say "Dadda" for me, too!

Also, be sure to check out these links (video 1 [wmv] [flash] & video 2 [wmv] [flash]) for slideshows of Brig's cousin, Robin, from her latest photoshoot.  Please contact Christie for picture orders.

March 18, 2007  3:49 p.m.

Yeah I know you were probably about to give up all hope of me ever updating this website again, but finally here I am with another posting, this one just in time for celebration of Brig's 3rd Birthday!!  We have lots of video to share from the past few months, but unfortunately I haven't gotten around to editing that just yet, so these pictures will have to suffice for now.  Enjoy!

October 4, 2006 9:23 p.m.

Click the link for pics from our day trip to Galveston beach.  Unfortunately, the battery to our camera died before we took our boat trip through the Haunted River at Rainforest Cafe as we would have loved to have shared that experience with each of you.  Daddy was scared to half to death but Brig and Mommy somehow helped get him through it.

It's a girl!!! Yes, baby Mecklyn, or more formally Mecklyn Lorrick Miller is here.  For those of you wondering, no the names doesn't hold some special meaning other than we liked it and wanted something unique, though Cheryl's middle name is Lynn so we've got a small allusion to Mom in there somewhere.

Mecklyn was born yesterday, July 14th at 3:17 pm.  Baby and mom are both doing great and hope to be home around noon on Sunday.  Cheryl has some real war stories about the whole experience, but I'll let her share those herself.  The short version is that she went into labor about 11:30pm on the 13th, we headed to the hospital 4am the following morning and about 12 hours later out came baby Mecklyn!

Let's Celebrate - Brig's baby sister is finally here!                                   Aren't I adorable?!!!                                          The proud parents and baby Mecklyn.                She's here, she's here - she's finally here!!!

Check back in over the coming days for more pictures and video!

If you're looking for pictures of baby Meck, I'm sorry to disappoint.  No baby yet -- Cheryl's due date is July 12 so stay tuned...

Anyway, we do have some progress of note, though - we finished construction of our bonus room today (three weeks late but better late than never, right?).

Scott also organized the garage so for the first time in months we can park our cars in there!

Well, believe it or not, but the Brigster is now two years old - I guess time flies when you're having fun, right?  Well, we just got the pictures back from Brig's two year photoshoot, so check out the links below to see how much our little boy has changed.  For those of you that haven't seen Brig lately, he's a regular chatter box - he's speaking in full sentences now and you'll have a hard time tripping him up with even the most difficult words (he loves reminding Daddy to change into his "comfortable clothes" when he gets home from work!).  We have a smart one on our hands!

Brig's vocabulary has now expanded to several hundred words - far too many for us to keep track of at this point.

Click here to link to some more photos of our Cherry Grove beach trip this past summer (pictures courtesy of Grammy & Grandaddy).

Unfortunately, our Christmas pictures were few and far between.  Here's a link to the few we did take.

Finally, I've included several videos from the past couple months.  The first one is Brig playing with his Legos in November 2005.  After that we have a short video chronicle of our trip to the Memphis Zoo (Sept 2005).  The third video captures Brig's visit to see some farm animals (cows & horses) while in Charlotte over Christmas vacation.  Finally, we have some video footage of Brig playing with Figaro, a playful cat that lives with Great Grammy & Aunt Iris.

Meanwhile, I finally got around to editing some video footage from our trip to Cherry Grove.  I also added some pictures of Grammy's recent visit with the Brigster.  Finally, we've been busy with a few home improvement projects of our own - be sure to check out the pics (I only have the "after" picks but hopefully you can remember what it looked like before our refurbishment).

Hey everyone.  It amazes me how quickly our little boy is growing up.  He can now climb on ladders, go down (and back up again) slides, dunk basketballs (well, on 40-inch goals anyway) and eat with a spoon.  He is now saying "bye-bye" whenever Mommy or Daddy have to leave (it breaks our hearts!) and can climb on top of anything that, well, I can't think of too many exceptions... he climbs on everything!  He has a cute little dance that he does whenever he hears music he likes and boy does he ever get excited whenever he sees a dog (or squirrel, bird or any of the more exotic animals at the zoo!).  Click here for a few recent pictures and be sure to check out the following video links:

Just a quick update to let you know that we have posted more pictures from Brig's One Year Photoshoot - these pictures were taken about a month after the first set to duplicate a few of our favorite poses with a darker background (these pictures were a bit washed out in our first take).   Click here for the new photos.

June 5, 2005,  9:20 p.m.

Okay, so I've been a little slack about updating this blog, but give me a break.  When's the last time you updated your blog?  Anyway, here's an update on the milestones Brig has hit since his birthday:

- walked/crawled up the steps on his own (actually he did this once back in November, but we didn't let him try again until recently)

- crawled up on the patio furniture, chairs, tables, etc.

- climbed out of his crib (ouch!!  I don't think he enjoyed the landing much because he hasn't tried it again in the two months since he first pulled off this feat!)

- swam with water wings (he even touched the bottom of the pool on his own once when he abruptly plunged into the pool at a party)

- climbed up the ladder onto the play-scape at the West U park

- climbed up the steps to the sliding board at Lupe Tortilla's and slid down the slide all by himself

- has added a ton of words to his spoken vocabulary:

     - mama

     - dada

     - thanks

     - shoes

     - hi / hey

     - vroom, vroom (when he pushes his toy cars around)

     - there are countless words he has muttered, but not quite mastered (ball, duck, more, etc.)

- learned to point;  this was huge.  He now points at water, cookies, balls, flowers, books, and basically anything else he wants to see/touch/eat

- learned to give kisses (he favors the open-mouth variety)

- learned to smell, drink from a sippee cup, blow, and drink from a cup (with some assistance from Mom & Dad or a straw)

- learned to feed himself with his hands;  he can use a spoon so long as you give him something that will stick to it (like mashed potatoes)

Most importantly, Brig has started understanding mom & dad;  he understands "go outside", "come inside", "no", "eat", "water", "go to sleep", "stroller", "go to the park", and lots more.   If you say "Brig, are you hungry?", he'll go over to his high chair and start trying to climb into it if he's hungry!  Ask him if he's sleepy and he'll pick up his bunny and head to the gate so you can take him upstairs and whisk him off to bed

He loves dogs, cats, birds, squirrels and basically any other animal he sees.  He's not good with them though, as the neighborhood cat is now scared of him after Brig hit him over the head with his bouncy ball and there's now a lizard with no tail running around in our backyard.

Out little boy is one year old!!  We threw a party for him at the park near our home.  We had lots of food, kids and of course fun!!  Cheryl hired an artist to draw pics of all the kids (see our video) and of course the highlight of the day was Brig tearing into his cake.

Yes, I know its been less than six hours since our last update, but we have big news to report (even bigger than Duke's romp over Wake!).  The Brigster is walkin' and even let the proud parents get it on videotape!  Yo Adrienne, [he] did it!

Feb. 20, 2005,  4:54 p.m.

Its been a busy weekend for a little boy like me!  I spent yesterday over at my cousin Robin's house.  We celebrated her first ever birthday!  I can't wait 'til its my turn, because Robin made a mess of herself and everyone thought it was cute!  Boy, I can really impress 'em when I get my chance to bury my face in a cake!  Check out this link for some photos daddy took of the party or better, yet click here for Robin's birthday video (music courtesy of Jimi Hendrix!).

I'm also getting better at this walkin' thing all the grown-ups do.  I even took eight steps without falling yesterday!  Mommy and Daddy keep trying to catch it on video, but you know how shy I am around cameras!
